That's Nice!

you saw it!

Hey we tried to collaborate with you guys but no joy I heard we would have made up the numbers quite nicely.

Can we move to another site rather than create noise here.

Kindest regards,

I was surprised to see that another Costa cruise was doing an eclipse run. I was on the Costa Classica, along with a ton of other eclipse-chasers, which also visited Jeju and Kagoshima, but also stopped off at Kobe on the way back to our main port of call, Tianjin (near Beijing). We saw the eclipse at the point of maximum duration near Iwo Jima. I was wondering if there were other ships near Shanghai. Very interesting!

The APOD from two days ago was taken from our ship, though!

We were unlucky and were not the only ones caught under heavy skies if you look at the link below the whole Eclipse line was swathed in a huge cloud band that stretched from deep China and beyond the South Japan Islands.

It seems to me very few saw it in China/Japan due to the lack of video posted on Youtube from our region, the only one I have seen with maximum totality is from NHK the Japenese TV station which says they are broadcasting from somewhere in the Pacific.

Yes we can conclude we will always be at the mercy of nature.

Hello Pam, thanks for the report. Nice that you share it. I was one of the few germans on the same cruise. What did we learn? Nature keeps nature and we have to accept it. Weak conclusion after a sad july 22nd.

Personally I think that it would rain (or at least cloud over) in the Sahara desert if there was an eclipse or meteor shower on. There definitely seems to be some link between meteors, eclipses and meteorology :P
On a more serious note I have wondered if the sudden temperature drop could cause condensation hence the reason it is so often cloudy during eclipses.

Advice from somebody with a lot of sea time.

It really helps if your visual field is doing the same thing your stomach is. The only time I got really sick was while trying to solder on a pitching ship.

Ditto that!

It would appear many of the Brits onboard used vast amounts of alcohol to conteract the swaying of the ship, a sort of enjoyable form of Gimbal and Gyroscopic balancing.

Looking forward to reading more!
